“landscape” Co-host Sunny Hostin asked Democratic Texas Senate candidate James Talarico on Monday whether he thought his rival Rep. Jasmine Crockett, D-Texas, could win the statewide race, signaling that the discussion surrounding her chances is about her candidacy.
“You’re in the Democratic primary with U.S. Rep. Jasmine Crockett, and there’s a lot of Discussion surrounding her electabilitysome would say is code for “they don’t think black women can win across the state.” If she beats you in this primary, do you think she can win the statewide race? Hostin asked Talarico.
Crockett interviewed by The View Earlier this year, on January 6, she defended her candidacy and said she was used to being underestimated.
Talarico responded to Hostin saying, “Absolutely.”

He said Crockett is a friend of his and said he intends to support her 100 percent if she wins the Texas primary.
“I have a deep love and respect for her. She is a leader in our state. I have said before that if she wins this nomination, I will support her 1,000 percent and I will do whatever it takes to get her across the finish line. We are on the same team, Jasmine and I. We are working to change the politics of our state and take back this country,” Talarico said.

“I think what I bring to this primary is something unique. I have a history of winning these types of races. I was elected to the state House by flipping a Trump district that no one thought was winnable, in a county that was so red that it hadn’t voted for a Democratic president since Jimmy Carter,” he said.

He added: “That’s the winning formula for me by building a big tent, motivating Democrats to get off the couch, attracting young voters who are disillusioned with politics, pulling people away from the center and even from the right. That’s how we win Texas and that’s how we save the American experiment in November.”
In the interview, Talarico also said it was time to “dismantle” ICE, which he described as a “secret police force,” and replace it with an agency truly focused on public safety.

Texas has not elected a Democrat to statewide office since 1994.
