It’s been over a year, and fans are still mourning the great loss on David Lynch. But there is a glimmer of hope that we can delve into one of the legendary creator’s most mysterious unrealized projects: Unrecorded Nightwhich was once considered by Netflix but was later shelved amid the pandemic and subsequently never brought back.
World on Reel ordered us to a Reddit post to Jennifer Lynch, daughter of David and a director in his own right.
“Unrecorded Night The scripts are likely to be published by myself and my brothers as a way to offer the unrealized, to those who would have liked it,” he wrote. “I beg everyone to wait for this release and not to look for what may be unauthorized versions and pollute the beautiful work done by Dad. Like millions of people, we are huge fans of our father’s work, and hope to see it shared and celebrated in all the best ways. We know there is a will, and we feel the need to fulfill Dad’s gifts as best we can.
A Reddit user added a further response, saying, “Someone asked (longtime David Lynch producer) Sabrina Sutherland the same question at the BFI Lost Highway screening last night (January 15), and he said the same thing.
This is very exciting news. Although Unrecorded Night never made it to the screen, it seems a fitting tribute that Lynch’s family and close associates agreed to publish the scripts. It’s also bittersweet, but we look forward to reading it and imagining what could have been.
