Scream 7 scored an impressive opening weekendhowever some pretty “meh” reviews. No doubt that makes the powers that be feel relieved that the drama around leaving Scream V and VI star Melissa Barrera—who was fired for social media posts showing support for Palestine amid the war in Gaza—none their bottom line hurts after all. But somehow, a Scream 7 star still was able to court controversy on social media.
All the famous people to do online are thoroughly researched. And you would think that the Yelling especially the cast—since they are part of a franchise that fired a main character because he dared to have an opinion and exercise his freedom of speech—tread carefully on any public-facing platform.
So it’s surprising that Scream 7 Star Anna Camp reposted a tone-deaf Instagram story dismissing protests calling for a boycott of the film as a show of support for Palestine. In a red-carpet interview with different, Scream 7 Writer-director Kevin Williamson was asked about the protest and said, “I think people should listen to themselves and do what’s right for them.”
Maybe that’s what Camp had in mind when he shared a deleted story that different described in detail; It was set to Taylor Swift’s “Karma” and read, “The boycott didn’t work. The critics who hated didn’t work. The pitiful leaks didn’t work. What worked were the audiences who came out and made the film a success.”
March 1, however, Camp issued an apology to X:
It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story without reflecting my personal beliefs. I deleted the repost because I really didn’t mean to. Sorry to anyone affected ♥️

“It has come to my attention that I reposted someone else’s story that did not reflect my personal beliefs,” he wrote. “I have deleted the repost as I had no intention of doing so. I apologize to anyone who was affected.”
It could be really wrong—but it’s also a reminder, not just to artists, to think carefully about what you throw out on social media, especially if it’s a repost. The camp will no doubt rock it, and so it does Yelling: surely it won’t take long for Team Ghostface to announce the eighth film in the series.
