Scottie Scheffler out with Christmas hand injury, American Express Championship golf news


Scottie Scheffler withdrew from the second event, the American Express, after injuring his hand while preparing Christmas dinner.

World number one Scheffler was cut by broken glass while preparing food on Christmas Day and is still recovering from surgery.

The injury forced Scheffler to withdraw from the Sentinel Event in Hawaii from January 2-5, and after consulting with his medical team, the 28-year-old confirmed that he will not compete in LaLiga from January 13-19. Tournament at Quinta Country Club.

“After consultation with my medical team, I have decided to withdraw from next week’s American Express Championship to give my injury more time to heal,” Scheffler wrote on Instagram.

“I still hope to start my 2025 season at the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am,” Scheffler continued.

How did Scheffler get injured?

Scheffler was ruled out for three to four weeks at the end of 2024 after he was forced to undergo surgery for a cut on his hand from broken glass.

“On Christmas Day, while preparing dinner, Scotty was stabbed by broken glass in the palm of his right hand,” Scheffler’s agent, Blake Smith, said in a statement.

“There were small shards of glass remaining in the palm, which required surgery. He was told he should be back to 100 percent in three to four weeks.”

Scheffler said he had “pretty much had the year of his life” after winning the FedEx Cup, capping off a “crazy” season – both on and off the golf course.

The 28-year-old became the first player to win The Players Championship, Masters and FedEx Cup in the same season.

Scheffler ended the season with a four-stroke victory at the Tour Championship, never relinquishing the title over four days and becoming the first player since Tiger Woods in 2007 to do so in a year. Players with seven or more wins on the PGA Tour.
