New Year, new Samsung smartphone to throw your money at. The company has officially announced that it will host Galaxy Unpacked Wednesday, January 22. It’s in San Jose, California—my hometown, if you care. We expect Samsung to announce the The Galaxy S25 seriesfrom small to Ultra. Additionally, there will likely be more Galaxy AI in store, as the teaser for the event makes clear.

What to Expect From the Samsung Galaxy Unpacked

We are waiting for what Samsung will do next with its flagship series. Apple and Google’s latest releases have been relative hits since their debut last summer, so the stakes are high. Although Samsung was the first to introduce artificial intelligence as a value addition to a premium smartphone, it did not have Google Gemini to piggyback on it like the release of the Galaxy S24 last year.

The company already told us that the Galaxy S25 series was close to a press release several months ago. But we know nothing about its contents or what it wants to do. We can only assume that it has the latest Qualcomm chip, optimized for Samsung devices. It could have thinner bezels, a larger display, and flat corners, just like the trajectory of the Ultra series. Some rumors say that the Galaxy S25 in the factory line is similar to the iPhone, where Samsung has spent years differentiating itself. Funny enough, so is the Google Pixel 9 line. Is this where everything is headed in Android land? As for other models, a smaller Galaxy S25 is expected to match the screen size of Apple and Google’s lineups. A small display can mean a portable device that has all the features of its larger siblings.

Now that we have an official date, the rumors will probably start to pick up. Samsung is relying more on artificial intelligence to bring the excitement forward. The teaser video published alongside the Galaxy Unpacked announcement begins with someone waking up and asking a digital assistant to put “Galaxy Unpacked” on the calendar. Samsung needs to prove to its users that Galaxy AI is not just a gimmick, the way Bixby failed us after it failed to deliver the same as Google Assistant.

If you’re the kind of Samsung fan who can pre-order a device without knowing what’s next, the company hopes to entice you with a $50 credit on a reserve from now until the day to launch on January 22. Samsung is offering up to $900 in credit on trade-ins, so consider the gadget part of your arsenal that will help reduce costs. Last year’s Galaxy S24 devices ranged from $800 to $1,300 for the Galaxy S24 Ultra. It is likely to be priced in the same range as this year or higher, with all the tariffs and cost increases.
