Sam Konstas opens up about his controversial spat with India star Jasprit Bumrah during the fifth Test at the Sydney Cricket Ground last week .
Facing some of football’s biggest superstars like Virat Kohli and Jasprit Bumrah can be intimidating for any player, especially For a 19-year-old making his debut. However, Sam Konstas showed he was not his usual 19-year-old and stepped up to the plate.
The right-handed batsman shocked the cricketing world with his quick fifty after becoming Australia’s youngest opening batsman in a Test match. He bowled out Jasprit Bumrah, scoring 60 runs off 65 balls in his first Test match.
However, the focus soon shifted from Sam Constellation’s knock to his altercation with the Indian players, especially Kohli and Bumrah. He was carried on Kohli’s shoulders during the Melbourne Test and then got into a spat with Bumrah in the fifth Test.
At the end of the second day, Constas decided to piss off Bumrah. As India’s forwards prepared to deliver the ball, Constas stood at the non-striker’s end and said something to the bowler.
Bumrah, who rarely loses his temper on the court, didn’t look happy at all. He said something dramatic and rushed towards Constas. The referee then quickly intervened and took control of the situation. The India star had the last laugh as he dismissed Usman Khawaja off the next ball before turning to Konstass and giving him the death stare.
Sam Konstas on falling out with Jasprit Bumrah:
Even though it was Sam Konstas who started it all in the Sydney Test, Jasprit Bumrah has been facing criticism from multiple quarters. Many felt that the senior pacer should ignore the youngster. However, the Australian youngster now admits it was his fault.
Konstas also admitted that Khawaja deliberately wasted time before crediting Bumrah with the wicket.
“Oh, I wasn’t too worried. Unfortunately, Uzi was out. He was trying to buy some time. It’s probably my fault, but it happened. This is cricket. Credit to Bumrah. He got the wicket. gate, but obviously the team performed really well,” Sam Constas told Triple M.
