Russia’s foreign minister has rejected a reported peace deal involving Ukraine and NATO, claiming the proposals were proposed by advisers to President-elect Trump.

Lavrov claimed in an interview that the United States planned to “suspend hostilities along the line of contact and transfer the responsibility for the confrontation with Russia to the Europeans.”

“Of course we are not happy with the proposals put forward by members of the Trump team to delay Ukraine’s membership of NATO by 20 years and to station British and European peacekeepers in Ukraine,” the foreign minister said, adding that no US official had announced.

Lavrov said the proposal came about through “leaks” and recent interviews with Trump time magazine, But Trump made no mention of NATO in his interview. The foreign minister also claimed that NATO “has been expanding its sphere of influence over the years, which became one of the main causes of the crisis in Ukraine.”

“Those who accuse Russia of various actions should take a good look in the mirror,” the foreign minister later said in an interview. “NATO troops and mercenaries are openly involved in the planning of combat operations and fight on the side of the Ukrainian armed forces.”

“NATO is complicit in the invasion of the Kursk region and long-range missile attacks on Russian territory,” Lavrov continued. “President Vladimir Putin made this clear in recent public statements.”

In an interview with Time magazine’s Person of the Year, Trump said that ending the Russia-Ukraine war would be “good for both sides” and claimed that if he were president in 2022, Russia would not invade Ukraine.

“I am very strongly opposed to launching missiles hundreds of miles into Russia. Why would we do that?” Trump said at the time. “We’re just escalating this war and making it worse… (but) I want to make a deal, and the only way to make a deal is to not give up.”

A week after Lavrov’s latest interview with the Russian president Vladimir Putin Expressed his willingness to compromise with Trump, but he insisted that Russia’s position is stronger than it will be in 2022.

Putin said: “Soon, those Ukrainians who want to fight will be gone. In my opinion, soon no one will want to fight.” “We are ready, but the other side needs to be ready to negotiate and compromise “

“We have always said we are ready to negotiate and compromise.”
