Russia Blocks WhatsApp Because It Doesn’t Comply With Local Law, Pushes State-Backed Alternative




The Kremlin said on Thursday that the US messaging app WhatsApp has been completely blocked in Russia for not complying with local law, suggesting that Russians are turning instead to the country’s “national messenger” MAX. Critics say MAX is a surveillance tool, which authorities deny.
