Russell Wilson His promotion from starting quarterback to the third unit with the New York Giants just weeks into the 2025 season has many questioning the 10-time Pro Bowler’s decision to play next season.
Wilson, 37, didn’t sound like he’d thought his decision through carefully. He wants to play in 2026.
“I didn’t blink,” Wilson said. every dream. “I know I’m capable. I think I showed that in Dallas and I hope to be able to do that again, you know, be ready to rock, stay as healthy as possible and be ready to play.”

Wilson signed a one-year, $10.5 million veteran’s minimum contract with the Giants last offseason that comes with plenty of incentives if he plays the full season.
That same offseason, the Giants traded up to select Jaxson Dart in the first round. Ole Misswho proved during training camp that he is NFL-ready at center.
Still, despite Dart’s success, then-head coach Brian Daboll remained steadfast in his decision to start Wilson. But, just three plays later, with the Giants leading 0-3, things changed.
Daboll selected in Week 4 against the Darts Los Angeles Chargers At home, the rookie defeated Justin Herbert and company to not only pick up his first career victory but solidify himself as the team’s starter moving forward.
Even so, Wilson remains positive, In an interview after practice, he said he understands the direction of the team and wants to help Dart develop and grow in his new role.

In three games started for the Giants, Wilson passed for 831 yards with three touchdowns and three interceptions, although all of those touchdowns came in overtime in a heartbreaking loss for New York in Week 2. More than half of Wilson’s passing yards came in that game as well, throwing for 450 yards in the 40-37 loss.
Wilson also said he suffered a torn hamstring against the Cowboys.
“I went into that game, you know, I pulled my hamstring in practice on Friday, the last game of practice. It was a grade two (tear). I couldn’t tell anybody. I had to go out there and play because I knew the situation and I had to play no matter what,” Wilson explained.
“I actually ended up going to the Dallas Mavericks practice facility. You know, just being quiet and just trying to get some treatment and just knowing that I probably couldn’t run from the goal line to the 10-yard line if I wanted to, but I felt like… I had to play this game.”

It will be interesting to see if Wilson lands anywhere, and better yet, if a team is willing to try him out as the starter again.
