Chelsea Manager Liam Rosenier praised his team for their engagement and energy in the 3-2 defeat. Arsenal Wednesday evening.
The Blues faced off against their familiar Premier League Rivals in the EFL Cup semi-finals, three Gunners’ goals were countered by Alejandro Garnacho from the bench.
Although they lost, Rosenier’s men are still in the tie and will return to the Emirates next week for the second leg.
Speaking after the match, the new head coach said: “It’s half-time (in the tie). I was very happy with the engagement, the commitment of the players. They gave everything.
“It was every open game. Disappointed to concede a corner. Disappointed even with the third goal because we were back in the game and we were on top at the time.
“We missed the restart from a central free kick but I can’t blame the players. We had sickness in the team, we took a few hits this week but what the team has shown is that they are ready to run and fight for each other.
“We need to make sure we do well individually we don’t concede too many goals.”
Robert Sanchez was at fault for Arsenal’s second goal, but was saved by his manager.
“Rob is a very good goalkeeper. He made a great save at 3-1 to keep us in the tie, so there are a lot of things that can be improved for me but I like the overall approach of the team. Hopefully, we’ll get some bodies back for Brentford on Saturday.”
On Garnacho, Rosenier added: “I said he would be important off the bench and he proved it today. I have an excellent team. What I need them to do is start the game or come off the bench. Garna showed his quality. I think Pedro Neto was magnificent. Estevo was also excellent.
