Tottenham showed their character to deny Newcastle all three points.
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero rescued a point for Thomas Frank as they came from behind twice to draw 2-2 against Newcastle United.
Frank went into the difficult trip to St James’ Park under great pressure 2-1 home defeat to FulhamAnd they were on the back foot for most of the game on Tyneside.
After frustrating Newcastle for 70 minutes, Tottenham were undone by Newcastle captain and surprise substitute Bruno Guimaraes, who produced a superb finish from the edge of the box to open the scoring.
Romero responded eight minutes later, beating Dan Burn to Mohamed Qudus’ near-post cross to restore parity.
It looked as if Anthony Gordon would prove to be Newcastle’s match-winner when Bentanker was controversially adjudged to have brought down Burn in the area, converting emphatically from the penalty spot, only for Romero to create injury-time magic as his overhead kick somehow deflected past Aaron Ramsdale and into the right corner.
Both sides live Level at 19 points in Premier League table, five points outside the top four.
