
Former Indian national cricket team player Robin Uthappa has given a clarification after an arrest warrant was issued against him. The batterer was accused of defrauding employees of provident fund contributions of a clothing company he ran.
Robin Uthappa, director of Bengaluru-based Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt Ltd, has been asked to pay dues of nearly Rs 24 lakh by December 27 or face arrest. He was accused of deducting provident funds from employees’ salaries but failing to deposit the funds into their accounts.

However, under intense pressure, the former batsman has now issued an official statement.
Robin Uthappa revealed that he was appointed as the director of the company in 2018-19 after making financial contribution to the company in the form of loan. But the batsman was quick to mention that he did not play an active role or even be involved in the day-to-day running of the business.
The cricketer-turned-commentator added that due to his cricket-related responsibilities, he does not have time to be involved in the day-to-day running of the game. He explained:
“In light of the recent news of the PF case against me, I would like to provide some clarification regarding my involvement with Strawberry Lencería Pvt. Ltd., Centaurus Lifestyle Brands Pvt. Ltd. and Berryz Fashion House. In 2018-19, due to the Formally made financial contributions to these companies and I was appointed as a director of these companies.

Unfortunately, these companies have failed to repay the funds I lent them, resulting in legal proceedings being initiated by me, which are currently pending .I also resigned from my position as director a few years ago.
“When the CPF authorities issued notices demanding payment of dues, my legal team responded by stressing that I had no role in the companies and providing documents from the companies themselves confirming my lack of involvement.”
Robin Uthappa concluded by saying that the provident fund authorities had taken action against him even though he did not hold any position in these companies.
