The five-time Olympian suffered a torn ACL on Jan. 30 during the World Cup downhill race. She wrote a touching message about her injury on Instagram and announced that she still planned to compete in the Olympics.

“With one week to go until the Olympics, this is a very tough result,” Vaughn wrote. “But if there’s one thing I know how to do, it’s come back. My Olympic dream isn’t over yet.

“Thank you all for the love and support. I will provide more information as it becomes available. Nonetheless, Vonn has decided that she will be able to compete for Team USA in Italy.”

Vonn won a gold medal in the same event at the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

Karin Kildow shares her reaction to sister Lindsey Vonn’s tragic car accident

Lindsey Vonn’s sister Karin Kildow is heartbroken after her accident on Sunday. She said the family had been “hoping for the best” and this was the last thing they expected.

“It was definitely the last thing we wanted to see. It happened very quickly,” Karine said, via NBC New York. “So when that happens you immediately hope she’s okay. It’s scary because when you start to see stretchers being brought out, it’s not a good sign.”

Team USA’s Breezy Johnson won the event. This is her first Olympic gold medal.
