The California Treasury Department cleared $3.44 billion in loans to bridge the gap in Medi-Cal spending, which critics say is due to illegal immigrant health care costs, and the governor’s office believes is not unusual.

The state’s Medi-Cal was expected to cost $6 billion a few weeks ago, but now it is about $9.5 billion. This is after becoming state law, people are eligible for the program regardless of their immigration status. According to the state’s website, Medi-Cal is the state’s Medicaid system for residents of certain golden states, which occupies both federal and state taxpayers’ dollars.

Critics who allow the program to be made available to people in the country, illegally strongly believe that this is the reason for the concern.

“Governor Gavin Newsom lied and cooked books to gift all illegal immigrants free health care and has now joined California taxpayers with billions of dollars in bills,” Rep. Carl Demaio, R-san Diego, told R-San News in a statement.

He continued: “It’s so bad that he needs to quit.”

Demaio, a MP, questioned a state budget official at a hearing last month, eventually revealing higher health care costs. Demaio was later evacuated from the California Legislative Budget Committee.
