Real Madrid are lining up a long-awaited return for defender David Alaba in next month’s meeting with Las Palmas, it has been revealed.
Alaba went down with an ACL injury in December 2023 and initially made very slow progress in his pursuit of recovery, only being able to join the team training sessions in late 2024.
According to MarkAlaba has been fully integrated into team training since returning from La Liga’s winter break, and will now be given several weeks to prove his fitness ahead of a possible competitive return.
If all goes according to plan, Madrid The medical staff believes that Alaba will be able to play a small part against Las Palmas on January 19.
Alaba’s imminent return will come as a huge boost for Carlo Ancelotti, who is realistically left with just one senior centre-back, Antonio Rudiger, after Ader Militao suffered his second ACL injury in as many years. Jesus Vallejo is also available but does not seem to be reliable.
Midfielder Aurelian Chouameni has filled in at the back at times, as has young Raul Asensio, but Ancelotti is keen to welcome Alaba’s experience back into the fold.
However, a late January return date will still see him miss matches against Valencia, Deportivo Minera, Mallorca and potentially the Supercopa de España final.
