India left-arm spinner Ravindra Jadeja once again shone with the ball as West Indies declared the first innings on 518/5 in the ongoing second and final Test at the Arun Jaitley Stadium in Delhi and ended the second day on 140/4, trailing by 378 runs.
Ravindra Jadeja ended the day with impressive figures of 3/37 in 14 overs, stealing the show on a day dominated by India’s batsmen, especially captain Shubman Gill, who hit a record-breaking hundred against the West Indies in Delhi.

When asked about captaincy or vice-captaincy after the second day’s play at the Arun Jaitley Stadium, the veteran India all-rounder made it clear that he was no longer considering the captaincy or vice-captaincy. Notably, Jadeja is currently serving as vice-captain in the ongoing West Indies Test series.

Recently, Gill was promoted as India ODI captain, replacing Rohit Sharma, while Shreyas Iyer was named vice-captain ahead of the upcoming white-ball tour of Australia. However, Jadeja has retired from T20I cricket and was not selected in the ODI squad due to the team combination.

But India chief selector Ajit Agarkar insisted that Jadeja remains an integral part of the 2027 ICC ODI World Cup plans. Amid the buzz, Jadeja emphasized that he will focus on contributing with the bat and ball as long as the team needs him.
Despite serving as vice-captain for the ongoing West Indies Test series, Jadeja said the role has not changed his approach and said he enjoys sharing his experience with young players.
Ravindra Jadeja told a press conference after the end of the second day (quoted by journalist Vimal Kumar): “I am no longer thinking about being captain or vice-captain. I love batting and bowling whenever I get the chance.”

Ravindra Jadeja looks ahead to 2027 World Cup glory
Jadeja also made it clear that he wants to play in the 2027 ICC World Cup and revealed that he has been told to miss the Australia tour.
The star all-rounder further stated, “Obviously, I want to play in the 2027 World Cup. It’s always a selection. The good thing is that the selectors and the captain talked to me and explained and I understand the reasons. Everyone’s dream is to win the ODI World Cup.”
He also made adjustments to his mentality and batting technique, which improved his performance. Jadeja admitted that cricket is full of transitions and while he may eventually be replaced, the game will always move forward.

Meanwhile, the Delhi pitch has been good with the batting so far but the Indian bowlers are causing trouble for the West Indies batsmen. Yashasvi Jaiswal pointed out that the pitch is still in good condition and the team will continue to work hard and try to take wickets quickly to maintain control of the game.
Speaking after the match, Yashasvi Jaiswal said, “The wickets are still pretty good; we bowled well. We will see them as soon as possible and catch them again.”
