rangers It has left a European club frustrated after submitting a low-ball bid for a new midfielder in the final stages of the January transfer window.
Rohr remains optimistic despite European heartbreak
Danny Rohr insists Rangers are on the right path despite ending their dismal Europa League campaign with a 3-1 loss to Porto at the Estadio del Rey.
For the visitors, the Light Blues looked reassured when Djeidi Gassama took the lead after just six minutes.
However, they collapsed before half-time, with goals from teenager Rodrigo Moura, Francisco Moura and an own goal from Emmanuel Fernandez turning the game around after Gers captain James Tavernier and goalkeeper Jack Butland collided.
The Govan club finished the night in 32nd place out of 36 teams with just four points, but the German boss insisted there were still positives.
“After 20 minutes I felt we were really in a good position. But then I thought 1-1, this happens against a strong team, it was too late, it happened.
“But I was disappointed with the 2-1, in that situation, it was too easy after the 40-metre ball (into the box) and then a bit unlucky, I think in the end, (3-1) it was an own goal from a set-piece where we knew they were strong.
“Overall, we played against a strong team with a lot of experience, good personal qualities, very (good) coaching and a good manager.
“But I compare this game to the one in Bergen. I saw a huge improvement. It’s not good enough at the moment. We have to improve in the future, especially in this game.
“But when I see us going to Porto, taking the initiative, trying to keep the ball, counter-pressing, overall I’m very proud of the development of the team, especially in Europe, and that’s what we can work on.
“I said to my players that I will not talk about this game anymore. I am completely focused on the league now. We have a mission, we have a solution and for that we need to give it our all now.”
Rohr, like fellow rival Martin O’Neill, is quite open to Glasgow’s need for new signings this month. The Gers seek reinforcements We’ll be chasing league leaders Hearts before the transfer window closes next week.
Rangers bid for Rwanda international rejected
According to reports from Belgium, via sports witnessRangers have made an offer of just under €1 million for Standard Liege midfielder Hakim Sahab, who can play as a six, eight or ten.
Liege are said to be less than happy with the offer and will instead accept a bid of around €1.5 million from AEK Athens, meaning the Gers will have to quickly raise their bid to complete the deal.
The 20-year-old, who was born in Belgium but represents Rwanda internationally, is out of contract this summer but Liege will trigger a one-year option so they can sell him at a profit this month.
It remains to be seen whether Rohr and Rangers will rejoin with a higher bid.
