Sunday’s game is indeed a game of two halves for Glasgow rangers care about, and Danny RohrThe Ibrox players flew out of the trap in the derby.
Polarizing striker Youssef Chermiti opened the game with one of the game’s standout goals, while teenage star Mikey Moore produced one of the standout individual derby performances, particularly in the opening 45.
Facing a cannonball visiting side, the Light Blues were ruthless and rampant, perhaps just frustrated at not further extending their early advantage at half-time.
However, all those positive feelings were offset after the break after Celtic came back and while a point was a commendable result, it did little to improve Rangers’ own side. Premier League Title ambition.
New faces stand out at Ibrox, although these longer-serving stars suggest their respective Gers careers may be coming to an end.
Why Sunday could mark the end for James Tavernier and others
As seen in Sunday’s first half, the future looked bright under Rohr, with Cermiti swooping in with an assist from Andreas Skov-Olsen and Turre Lomens once again starring at left-back, pushing forward at every opportunity.

The result also appeared to be the nail in the coffin for the club’s captain and leading scorer, James TavernierHowever, Rohr favors the returning Dujon Sterling, as he did in the win over Hearts two weeks ago.
The 34-year-old free-running shooting guard appears to be on the way out, with his contract expiring this summer and his presence as a team leader no longer guaranteeing a starting spot.
Perhaps the same should be said for midfielder Nicolas Raskin, with the Belgian’s own future still in dispute despite the club triggering a clause extending his current contract until 2028.
The 24-year-old has long been linked with an exit from Ibrox but his performance at the weekend was once again far from his best, conceding 12 goals from just 38 touches and winning just 50 per cent of the day’s duels.
Raskin got into a war of words with Celtics’ Julian Araujo after the game, and Raskin can talk the talk but not act on it lately, with analyst Kai Watson recently questioning whether the former Standard Liege star “Give the Rangers enough room for the position he plays?“.
On current evidence that doesn’t appear to be the case, and he and Tavernier aren’t the only high-profile names who may need to be replaced in the long term.
The Rangers guys look like they belong in the Caixinha era
The reason for Tavernier being left out of the wing in key games appears to be ongoing concerns over his defensive quality, with him averaging 0.6 dribbles per game in the Premier League while conceding 17.6 times per game.
Despite his high status in the team, these issues have seen Rohr favor Sterling in recent times, with the German now determined to replace Tavernier’s successor in captain John Souttar.
Wearing the captain’s armband for the weekend fixture, the former Hearts man endured a shaky second half as Celtic fought back and no defender failed to catch Kieran Tierney in the visitors’ first of the day.
Soutar was also at the scene of the crime, in part for the eventual penalty decision, leaving Daishin Maeda completely free to head home after initially marking the Japanese forward in the penalty area.
The experienced Scot, who was also booked for a late charge on Sebastian Tunekti during a chaotic second half, was once again a real liability at centre-back alongside the impressive Emmanuel Fernandez.
Fernandes has made a strong start to life at Ibrox and has been linked with the likes of Arsenal and Chelsea and appears to be a talent for the future, while Soutar should well be content to live with the past, even after signing a one-year extension at the end of last month.
Judging from his recent performances, Soutar, who also clearly failed to prevent Stephen Welsh’s late equalizer against Motherwell, now appears to be a real problem and more of a concern than any doubts about Tavernier’s defensive acumen at right-back.
The 29-year-old’s performance at the weekend was a throwback to days gone by, back to Pedro Kesnia’s dismal centre-back days when the likes of Russell Martin and Bruno Alves joined the Rangers circus.
Like the aging pair under Caixinha, Souttar should stand above the rest as one of the more experienced figures in the squad, although there was a day when 18-year-old Moore stole the show.
However, like Martin, Alves and others, the much more senior Sutta looked clearly out of step and his lack of athleticism was a real problem, especially when dragging Tunecti.
As already said, the high-profile signings of Fernandes and Rohr in January look to be around players going forward, although in Tavernier, Raskin and Soutar in particular, the Gers risk repeating the mistakes of the past by sticking with that misfired trio.
