tottenham hotspur Former player Ramon Vega has accused the team of “total neglect” after making a “wrong decision” on in-form talent Luka Vuskovic.
Spurs’ defensive crisis has been making headlines recently Thomas FrankAfter a nightmare first half, the team is currently in 14th place.
The north Londoners attempted to address their defensive issues in January, pursuing a number of targets including Liverpool’s Andy Robertson and Bayern Munich player Dayot Upamecanothe latter immediately agreed to extend the contract until 2030.
Spurs ended the transfer window bringing in Connor Gallagher from Atletico Madrid and adding left-back Souza to the first team, but their defensive recruitment is nowhere near where it needs to be.
Meanwhile, one of their most promising young centre-backs continues to shine elsewhere on loan, raising serious questions about Tottenham’s plans and development path.
Vuskovic performed well during his time with Hamburger SV in the Bundesliga.
The 18-year-old joined Spurs from Hajduk Split in September 2023 and played for approx. £13 millionbut was immediately loaned directly back to the Croatian giants.
After consecutive loan spells with Radomik Kradom in Poland and Westeros in Belgium, Vuskovic has now established himself as one of the Bundesliga’s standout defensive performers, regularly dominating Hamburg and showing maturity well beyond his years.
The tall centre-back combines excellent technical ability with physical advantages, making him ideally suited to the demands of modern football.
Vuskovic even earned genuine praise from Bayern Munich and Germany legends Lothar Matthäuswho called him a rare talent and a “smart” player.
“It’s not just about winning headers, tackles or scoring goals: he’s a guy who organizes defences. That’s something you rarely see,” Matthaus told Sky Sports Germany.
“He’s 18 years old but he plays with a cool head, like a guy who has been to three World Cups and won two Champions Leagues.
“Even when I’m 30, I don’t see what he saw when he was 18. This player is so smart.”
Bayern have also been linked with a move for Vuskovic, prompting Vega to fear the worst as he made a worrying statement.
Ramon Vega convinced Luka Vuskovic will quit Tottenham Hotspur
The former Tottenham defender took to X (ex-Twitter) to claim that Spurs really yelled at Vuskovic by letting him shine elsewhere.
The Argentinian believes it is only a matter of time before Bayern make a move for the teenage star and he hit out at Tottenham Hotspur for their decision-making.
Vega didn’t hesitate to discuss the situation on social media, posting a scathing assessment of Tottenham’s football department.
The former Switzerland international has made it clear that Vuskovic will not be returning to north London, labeling him another lost gem where Spurs had a real chance but made the completely wrong decision.
Vega described this as a prime example of the problems plaguing Tottenham’s football operations, calling it “complete neglect”.
Vega made 68 appearances for Spurs between 1996 and 2000, winning the League Cup in 1999, so his views are significant.
His brutal assessment highlights the growing frustration with Tottenham Hotspur’s transfer strategy and player development.
Cristian Romero has been linked with a summer exit from La Liga It was “disgraceful” to publicly slam the club’s January business following the draw with Manchester City.
Despite making a heroic comeback against Pep Guardiola’s side on Sunday, Frank is still in danger of becoming the next Premier League manager to be sacked.
