Rajeev Shukla clarifies Pakistandecision to boycott India T20 World Cup matches against Pakistan: Tensions are high at the 2026 T20 World Cup, with India’s match against Pakistan hanging in the balance. The Government of Pakistan and the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) have decided to participate in major International Cricket Federation events; however, they will boycott the India vs Pakistan match scheduled for February 15 at the R Premedasa Stadium, colombo. According to reports, the International Criminal Court will hold an emergency meeting within 48 hours.
They will discuss the ongoing confusion surrounding the India vs Pakistan match. Prior to this, BCCI vice-president Rajeev Shukla shared his insights on the situation and said that the Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) committee agrees with the stance of the International Cricket Confederation (ICCI) on the sportsmanship statement regarding Pakistan’s boycott of India-Pakistan matches.

BCCI vice-president and MP Rajeev Shukla said via ANI, “ICC has issued an important statement and they have spoken about sportsmanship. We completely agree with ICC. BCCI will not make any comment on this until we speak to ICC.”

These comments by Rajeev Shukla Earlier, the Pakistani government issued a statement on X saying that the Pakistani team “should not play” in the match against India.
ICC clarifies Pakistan’s ‘selective play’
After issuing a statement opting out of the T20 World Cup group stage match against India, the ICC said it would not allow “selective participation” considering the “fundamental premise of a global sporting event” and hoped that the PCB would find a common solution that protects the interests of all stakeholders.
The ICC said in a press release that it has taken note of the statement issued by the Pakistan government regarding its decision to direct its national team to participate in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2026 on a selective basis. “The International Cricket Council expects the PCB to consider the significant and long-term impact on cricket in the country as this may impact the global cricket ecosystem of which it is a member and beneficiary,” it said.
When did this quarrel between India and Pakistan begin?
The controversy started in the first match of the 2025 Asia Cup when the Indian captain Suryakumar Yadav Refusing to shake hands with Pakistan captain Salman Ali Agha during the toss. This situation continued until the Asia Cup final and more controversy arose when the Indian team refused to accept the trophy after winning the tournament with Asian Cricket Council (ACC) chairman Mohsin Naqvi.
Pakistan has yet to provide formal confirmation to the ICC of the Pakistani government’s statement. Earlier, BCCI secretary Devajit Saikia was asked about the viral statement; however, he also refused to comment until the ICC takes a final decision on the matter.
