
Former Indian cricketer Sunil Gavaskar slammed Rajasthan Royals (RR) after losing to Royal Challenger Bangalore (RCB) in IPL 2025 Clash. The legendary cricketer said that despite head coach Rahul Dravid taking the helm, the Jaipur-based franchise played “unthinking cricket” in the game.
On Thursday, April 24, the team led by Riyan Parag once again stumbled upon in a match against Royal Challenger Bangalore against Royal Challenger Bangalore. RCB ended their three-game winning streak, lost at home and finished third in the standings. Meanwhile, RR ranked eighth with two wins.

Sunil Gavaskar was disappointed with the Rajasthan Royals’ decision on the spot under Rahul Dravid. He described the style of the game as “mindless cricket” and under Dravid’s leadership he discovered the style of the game. Gavaskar stressed that Dravid’s career was defined by clarity and precision.

Speaking to Star Sports, Sunil Gavaskar said: “With Rajasthan Royals, I’m talking about earlier games where I’m not on the ground. I just saw them. So, you don’t always feel what’s going on. But here, I’m on the ground, you can see the cricket you’re playing.”
“And, for a coach like Rahul Dravid, it’s confusing – it’s cricket that you don’t think about. Dravid is always so precise in his mind that I think this approach will seep into some Rajasthan batsmen,” Gavaskar added.

The former Indian cricketer noted that despite most of these matches being controlled, the team chased three times in a row. Gavaskar pointed out that young players will definitely make mistakes, but there is still a lack of thinking behind the team’s approach.
“Where is the thinking process there? You can’t expect inexperienced players to always get it right, but … it’s just another kind of cricket.”
The Rajasthan Royals’ playoffs hope to be hung by a line after their recent defeat. With seven out of nine games, one side is on the verge of elimination, and another failure could officially eliminate them from the IPL 2025 game.
Rajasthan Royals’ mid-range batsman fights spinner
The Rajasthan Royals, along with Yashasvi Jaiswal and 14-year-old Vaibhav Suryavanshi, started chasing 206, with only 4.2 runs. After an aggressive attack, Suryavanshi was a match for Impact Player, hit by Bhuvneshwar Kumar’s knuckle.
Jaiswal fell just before the power play ended, scoring 49 points on 19 balls, including seven boundaries and three sixes. Rajasthan struggled in the middle, Krunal Pandya picked up Riyan Parag and Nitish Rana.
Shimron Hetmyer (11) also left cheaply. Dhruv Jurel recovered hope from 34 with 47 goals, especially after he and Shubham Dubey ran 22 times in Game 18 of Bhuvneshwar. However, RR finished 194/9 in 20 points.
For RCB, Josh Hazlewood won four wickets with 33 runs in his four games and won the tournament prize.
