The 13th match of the 2026 T20 World Cup between South Africa and Afghanistan ended in a dramatic way. With 2 balls and a wicket needed from the last three balls, the Proteas managed to get out and the match ended in a draw, followed by the Super Over. This is the first super match of this T20 World Cup.
South Africa is full of confidence after a landslide victory over Canada in their first game. The Proteas got into batting position first but ran away after losing skipper Aiden Markram early in the innings. Quinton de Kock and Ryan Rickelton bowled out the Afghan bowlers. Both the batsmen scored over fifty runs and looked in good form.
De Kock and Rickton’s furious performances
De Kock made full use of his experience in the game and scored 59 runs in 41 deliveries with a strike rate of 143.90, hitting 5 fours and 3 sixes. He is the anchor between the two. Rickton scored at an alarming rate, scoring 61 points off 28 balls at a strike rate of 217.86, hitting 5 fours and 4 sixes. They put up a 114-run partnership for the second wicket.

Later, David Miller, Dewald Brevis and Marco Jensen also made small cameos, with the latter scoring 16 points off 7 balls for a final score of 187/6. Afghanistan captain Rashid Khan picked two wickets and bowler Azmatullah Omarzai picked three wickets.
Rahmanullah Gurbaz, the lone warrior
Afghanistan struggled to catch up and got off to a flying start with 50 runs in four overs. Openers Ibrahim Zadran and Rahmullah Gubaz fired from the top. The latter was the aggressor of the two. The former scored 12 of 10 goals in his first 51 games. The 2024 finalist picked two quick wickets in the space of 1 over. From 51/1 to 52/3.
However, Afghanistan recovered well after Gulbaaz kept attacking from one end. The wicketkeeper-batsman scored 84 runs off 42 balls. Azmatullah Omarzai’s minor cameo with a 17-ball 22 and skipper Rashid Khan’s 12-ball 20 kept the Afghans in the game. They needed 13 runs in the final over, with Kagiso Rabada bowling in the final over.
The veteran pacer faltered and bowled a no-ball in the first ball. 12 runs were needed in six overs, then Noor hit a six off the second ball and 5 runs were needed in the last 3 balls. Then, again, no field goal, 2 needed for three.
Rabada ran in and while completing two runs, Fazal Haq Faruqi was run out at free and Afghanistan were all out. The game entered the super round. The Afghanistan team scored 17 points in the super round. The South African team entered the super round with 17-1. The game entered the second super round.
In the second super over, South Africa scored 23 points while Afghanistan were chasing 24. With the help of Keshav Maharaj’s bowling, Gulbaaz hit three sixes in three balls and was caught at the back point with five balls left in the last ball. They almost sealed the victory and the Proteas won the match in the second super over.

Afghanistan failed to achieve great victories due to lack of experience.
The fifth goal in the 20th over is a free kick. The only way out was to run out and the Afghanistan batsman was run out on his second risky run!
Regardless, this is one of the most exciting T20 internationals!#SAvsAFG— Jatan Acharya (@jatanacharya) February 11, 2026

His brain is to keep the elderly nabi ahead of the gubaz. Seriously, the Afghans deserved it because they had none of Brian’s shit.
