Rep. Ayanna Pressley, D-Mass., a key member of the progressive “squad,” announced Tuesday that she will run for re-election. Massachusetts 7th Congressional District Instead of challenging Sen. Ed Markey for his U.S. Senate seat.
Her decision, shared in a statement, ends months of speculation that she might run in the Democratic primary.
Pressley said in a statement that the encouragement she has received from voters across the state is “deeply humbling.”
“It is deeply humbling to hear that so many people from across the Commonwealth are encouraging me to run for the U.S. Senate, and it is a testament to the power of our movement,” Pressley said.

Pressley added: “It would be an honor to serve the entire commonwealth, but with our daughter spending her last year at home before heading off to college and this district being in the White House’s crosshairs, I feel confident that Massachusetts’ 7th District is where I belong at this moment.”

Presley also told boston globe She has not closed the door on a future run for Senate.
“I’m not closing the door on the Senate,” she told the media.
She decided not to participate in this round, avoiding a potentially awkward showdown between the two progressives. Markey has long been aligned with the party’s left wing.

Rep. Seth Moulton, D-Mass., has entered the race and is trying to compete with 79-year-old senator.
A Suffolk University-Boston Globe poll released before Thanksgiving also showed Markey leading Moulton 45 percent to 22 percent among likely Democratic primary voters.
But when Presley was included hypothetical showdownshe held a narrow lead over Markey, 35% to 34%, while Moulton dropped to 16%.

Pressley emphasized in Tuesday’s statement Her term in Congress, From expanding mental health supports to securing tens of millions of dollars in federal funding for her district.
She also vowed to continue fighting for a more just and equitable Massachusetts. Pressley has not announced his support for the Senate race.
