The Premier League isn’t done yet for 2024, but we’ve enjoyed the last bit of action before Christmas.
Divisional festivities are well under way, with the current busy period often proving crucial in many seasons.
The league has been a little bonkers so far. We can say with some safety that Manchester City’s title run will stop at four and Southampton are doomed, but we can safely speculate about what might happen in the second half of 2024/25.
The form table on Christmas Day reveals a topsy-turvy division, with two unremarkable sides leading impressive campaigns towards the top, while the champions sit in one of the division’s saddest outfits.

A disappointing draw at Goodison Park was not enough to see Chelsea’s fall from the top of the form in the table. The Blues are unbeaten since October, and have won their previous five Premier League An outing before Sunday’s impasse.
Everton Taking points from their two primary challengers in recent weeks has helped bitter rivals Liverpool’s title hopes. The Toffees picked up a point at the Emirates, before holding off the Blues. Armory Sean Dyche’s side were disappointed on home soil, and a win there would likely see them top the table in Christmas form. The Gunners have registered 11 points from their last five and are unbeaten since the November international break.
Bournemouth and Nottingham Forest are the two surprise packages that have claimed more points than title hopefuls Arsenal. In fact, the Cherries, after winning 3-0 at Old Trafford for their second consecutive season, are level on 13 points with Chelsea at the summit. Forest rank just behind with 11, having won four of their previous five.
League leaders Liverpool Recent weeks have presented some weaknesses but still have a healthy buffer at the summit thanks to Everton’s recent work. The postponement of the Merseyside derby means they have played fewer games than everyone else in the form table, but two wins and a pair of draws see them sitting in seventh place.
Life under Reuben Amorim has been a mixed bag for him Manchester United So far, and their 3-0 defeat to Bournemouth was a huge blow. The Portuguese coach has yet to generate any momentum at Old Trafford, with United winning two of his previous five in the league, but the scale of the task at Amorim’s disposal is daunting.
United’s form is 11th in the table and well ahead of the likes of Tottenham and Manchester City. This could be a year for the Cup in north London due to Spurs’ Premier League apathy. Ange Postecoglou’s side have performed admirably but have struggled mightily in the absence of multiple senior defenders. City have been almost inexplicably poor, although Spurs’ woes have yet to be extended to one win in 12.
The Citizens’ 3-0 win over Nottingham Forest proved to be just the wrong morning as they have since been beaten in the Manchester derby and at Aston Villa.
Brighton have had a fantastic start to the season under Fabian Herzeler, but the Seagulls are in the midst of a tussle having failed to win any of their past five. They are 17th in the form table and on the brink of the drop zone. Fortunately, there are some pretty terrifying teams competing in the top flight. Wolves, Ipswich and Southampton occupy the bottom three places in the form and actual league table.
