Gwen Price has warned his opponents he is returning to the best darts game of his career and said a Grand Slam title is within reach after winning the second night of the Premier League in Antwerp.
price to beat Michael van Gerwen moved up to second in the Premier League table with a 6-3 win in Thursday’s finalthree points behind leader Van Gerwen.
“The Iceman” is a former world champion and three-time Darts Grand Slam and World Grand Prix winner, but he is now aiming to end five years as a major television champion.
The Welshman has been on fire so far in 2026. He had three top-five finishes at the Players Championship 2 in Hildesheim earlier this week, but failed to win the title – losing to Wesel Niemann in the final.
Price beat last week’s finalist Gian van Veen and World Cup partner Jonny Clayton before ending van Gerwen’s unbeaten start to the Premier League in Belgium.
“I know I played well but you still have to do it on the big stage and that doesn’t always happen, like the first game,” he told sky sports after his victory.
“Gian went to the bull and beat me and it could have been a different story and I could have been sent home with another defeat. I went through that game and it gave me more confidence.
“I played great in Germany (The Players Championship), but it’s trying to do it on the main stage. By the end, I did it, I tried to concentrate. It was great. Just to get two points, I’m happy, but five points is even better – and it was ten!”
Price admits he is playing his “best” game ever but says he still needs more, with world number one Luke Littler and reigning Premiership champion Luke Humphries currently leading the chase for the trophy.
“I think I’m playing some of the best stuff I’ve ever played. I’m just not winning games, but that will come,” Welsh said.
“If I keep playing the way I’m playing now, there’s no way I won’t play the majors, the ProTours, the Europeans (European Tour events). I just have to play as many tournaments as I can and stay in good shape.
“How I didn’t win that tournament (The Players Championship 2), I don’t know! Fair play to Wessel Nijman. He was very good at darts and that’s all you have to do. If you are good at darts and win the tournament, then you win the tournament. I’ll get some!”
“Obviously ranking points and ranking championships are the priority, but getting out there in front of the crowd week in and week out, performing hard, winning and getting points is what gives you the confidence going into the Pro Tour and Europe.
“That’s probably my priority, but I just need to win in these races to give me the confidence to go into the ProTour (events). So, yeah, that’s probably the priority right now.”
