Player Ratings as Reds clinch a resounding victory

Tottenham Hotspur were beaten 6-3 by Liverpool in front of their own fans in a delightfully chaotic contest on Sunday afternoon.

Arne Slott was full of praise for him Tottenham counterpart Ange Postecoglou ahead of Sunday’s match. “He’s a joy to watch,” said the Liverpool boss. He looked like a joy to play against Spurs.

Trent Alexander-Arnold’s delivery for the visitors’ opening goal was a thing of beauty, curling across the Tottenham half to the head of Luis Diaz. Liverpool 23rd minute lead. Andy Robertson’s dipping cross was not immediately cleared properly, rising to nod in for Alexis McAllister.

James Maddison took advantage of a high turnover to halve the deficit in the 41st minute with a goal against the run of play. However, Liverpool restored their two-goal lead before the interval, Dominik Soboszlai completing the move he had started.

If the final result was in any doubt, Liverpool sealed all three points with a crisp counter-attack within the opening ten minutes of the second half. Despite Archie Gray’s best efforts, Mohammed Salah Was on hand to score the fourth goal.

Barely five minutes passed before Salah scored at the sharp end of another blistering transition, adding Liverpool’s fifth score on the hour to make it 5-1 in a generally entertaining game.

Tottenham, however, will not sleep. The hosts continued to push forward, leaving themselves open on the counter, but Dejan Kulusevski and then Dominik Solank laid the groundwork for Alisson to pull it back to 5-3.

Diaz started this festive goal-fest and he will end it. In the 85th minute, Diaz picked out the far corner, getting past a defensive setup that looked completely contrived.

A nine-goal thriller leaves Liverpool four points clear of Chelsea at the Premier League summit while Spurs languish at the bottom of the table.
