It was the first half of the 2022 World Cup final at Qatar’s Lusail Stadium, but Madrid They took the lead with their first big chance in the 37th minute.
A fine team goal saw the reigning European champions take control of the final, before Vinicius Jr eventually rounded the Pachuca goalkeeper. Kylian Mbappe with tap-in.
Madrid needed just eight minutes after the restart to double their advantage and keep one hand on the trophy. Rodrigo was the man to provide the breathing space, faking a left-footed shot on the edge of the penalty area before curling an exquisite finish into the right corner.
CONCACAF champions Pachuca tried to reduce the deficit in the closing stages as they upped their intensity but Madrid scored a third goal in the 84th minute to completely kill any slim hopes of a grandstand finish. Lucas Vazquez was fouled in the penalty area and Vinicius Almost converted the ensuing spot-kick to secure the Intercontinental Cup for Los Blancos.
