After a demoralizing and A controversial penalty shootout loss Against arch-rivals Celtic in last weekend’s League Cup final, Rangers had to turn their attention to the grind of top-flight football.

Philip Clement declared that Hamedpen’s loss had “really hurt everyone at the club”, and there was a sense of deflation from the opening 45 minutes. The Gers piled up double-digit shots and had more than 80% possession but only forced Dundee’s veteran goalkeeper Trevor Carson into two straight saves.

Whatever Clement said at half-time quickly paid off. Václav Cerny, at the center of the non-penalty decision which A stand-off between the Rangers And the Scottish FA legally dismissed the visitors within a minute of the restart.

Clearing Dundee’s tangled backline, the Czech forward rounded Carson and quickly snuck the ball away between narrow angles.

Rangers Despite a promising opening for James Tavernier and two golden chances for Hamza Igamane, Cerny’s opener did not add up. Nevertheless, the victory moved the Gers into second place, and the Aberdeen side quickly ran out of steam after a blistering start to the campaign.

Clement insisted pre-game that “things are going in the right direction”. Three more Premiership points boosted the manager’s argument, but an eight-point gap to the league-leading Celtic Underlines how far Rangers have to go.
