The task force will be established on Friday under the leadership of the 2nd Marine Expeditionary Force “to synchronize and enhance counternarcotics efforts across the Western Hemisphere,” U.S. Southern Command said in a release.
“Transnational criminal organizations threaten the security, prosperity, and health of our Western Hemisphere,” Gen. Alvin H. Holsey, commander of Southern Command, said in a statement. “By forming a joint task force around II MEF headquarters, we work with U.S. and partner nation counterparts to increase our ability to detect, disrupt and dismantle illicit trafficking networks faster and more deeply.”
