Paramount wants out of ‘Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles’



In the wake of the success of Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Mutant Mayhemfelt that Paramount was unsure of what it had on its hands for the noble heroes of the middle shell. Plans are made for a sequela spinoff show, and even other big ideas like a live-action Last Ronin movie—but then came the acquisition of Skydance. And while plans have changed a bit, they come with a new focus that the studio wants to make TMNT a high priority.

We already know that Paramount is preparing to bring Raph, Leo, Donnie, and Mikey back to the big screen again for a new one. live-action/animated hybrid project in 2028, after Mutant chaos the sequel dropped the following year. But talking to Hollywood Reporter This week, Paramount president of global products and experiences, Josh Silverman, outlined a series of new plans for the studio to push the TMNT still franchise.

Announced in time for the New York Toy Fair later this week, Mattel will now be the global master license holder for TMNT toys—which took over in 2027, after the shocking news late last year that long TMNT toymaker Playmates loss of license. As well as general action figures, toys and accessories, vehicles, games, collectibles, and roleplay items, Mattel will also be the leader in toys for both. Mutant Mayhem 2 and the aforementioned 2028 movie. Paramount will also make a more concerted effort for licensed tie-in fiction as well, with a floating middle grade book series from Scholastic and a Last Ronin novelization from Abrams.

Meanwhile, Paramount is also preparing to launch a new CG web series aimed at children for the franchise, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, a 30-episode short series designed for YouTube that follows the quartet as young ninjas-to-be. And if that wasn’t enough Ninja Turtles? If you’re based in Santa Monica, California, Monterrey, Mexico, or Sao Paulo, Brazil, you can check out one of the three new ones. TMNT-themed pizzerias opened to bring back the favorite food of turtles to a series of licensed restaurants. Today, chain restaurants; tomorrow, the world?

One interesting aspect of these plans that hasn’t been mentioned, however, is a potential new TV series for the franchise. completion TMNT StoriesTHE Mutant chaos interquel series, canceled late last year after two seasons, nothing else Ninja Turtles will be shown on the horizon for the first time since 2018 Rise of the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. But these are early days of Skydance-Paramount’s renewed focus on TMNT, so perhaps a new show is as inevitable as toys and slices of pizza.
