The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to take a final decision on Pakistan’s participation in the 2026 T20 World Cup later today. The ICC has rejected the Bangladesh Cricket Board’s (BCB) request to move Bangladesh matches outside India. Following this decision, Bangladesh was excluded from the upcoming tournament. The development has led to growing speculation that Pakistan will also boycott the global tournament.

“The Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) is expected to decide today whether the national team will participate in the 2026 T20 World Cup,” sources told Geo News on Sunday.
PCB prepares Plan B ahead of 2026 T20 World Cup
Mohsin Naqvi met with Pakistani Prime Minister Sherbaz Sharif on January 26. The board is yet to unveil Pakistan’s 2026 T20 World Cup jersey, after its launch was delayed due to unavoidable reasons.
Meanwhile, the PCB is ready with backup options. If Pakistan decides not to participate in the World Cup, a four-team domestic tournament will be held in Lahore.
The tournament will include players from Pakistan Senior Team, Pakistan Shaheens and Under-19 Team, who will be divided into four teams to ensure cricket is played at home.
Uncertainty over Pakistan’s participation in 2026 T20 World Cup
Bangladesh refused to travel to India as tensions escalated and were subsequently replaced by Scotland. In response, the Pakistan Cricket Board threatened to sit out the tournament and even canceled plans to launch Pakistan’s World Cup jersey, saying a final decision had not yet been made.
In a statement related to the series against Australia, the board mentioned that one of their pacers will be released as he is not part of Pakistan’s T20 World Cup squad. The post was later deleted but strongly hinted at Pakistan’s plans.
According to reports, the Pakistan team will travel to Sri Lanka on February 2, and they will also play a warm-up match against the Irish team at the Sinhala Sports Club two days later. The Salman Ali Agha-led side will play all matches in Sri Lanka, including the knockout rounds.
