India vs Pakistan match in ICC event is one of the most awaited and watched matches in all ICC events. However, there was uncertainty surrounding the India-Pakistan match on Sunday after Pakistan qualified for the much-awaited T20 World Cup 2026. But they did not allow their team to play against India in a major tournament.
Controversy has engulfed the world of cricket after the Pakistani government posted on social media. The decision comes after Bangladesh were pulled out of the T20 World Cup due to security reasons and they did not change their stance and were replaced by Scotland even after multiple assurances from the international body. Pakistan, which supports the Bengal Tigers, finds itself in a difficult situation.
Pakistan will sink into its own grave
Mohsin Naqvi and the board desperately need international support for their decision to boycott the high-stakes match between India and Pakistan. According to NDTV, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) has been seeking support from other member committees of the International Cricket Council (ICC). However, the PCB is yet to issue any official notification to the global cricket body regarding the current chaos.
Your daily dose of cricket!
This has created serious tension for the PCB as they are being isolated and distanced from their survival mode, which is cricket. According to reports, there was not much positive action from the Pakistani side as feedback from other board members was not supportive of them. Currently, the legal status of PCBs is controversial. The PCB launched the boycott to express solidarity with Bangladesh after they were banned from the tournament.
Pakistan’s double standards
Committee members found that various issues exposed Pakistan’s intentions behind the move. Pakistan U-19 team played a virtual knockout match against India U-19 team without any protest or boycott. Even in women’s cricket, Pakistan Women A are scheduled to face India A on February 15 and have no plans to withdraw from the Rising Stars Asia Cup 2026 in Bangkok.
In the absence of support from other committees, global cricket bodies have warned of “long-term sanctions”; if Pakistan is removed from the T20 World Cup or faces any other punishment, it will have a huge impact on its own cricket ecosystem and it will be digging its own grave. Other boards have reportedly reminded the PCB of “selective participation”.
PCB time is running out
The PCB now finds itself in shallow waters and could face a hefty fine estimated at more than $38 million, loss of vital World Test Championship points and suspension.
There is still time for Pakistan to reverse its decision and if they stick to their stance with only a few days left, Pakistan will have to endure a complete financial collapse. The ICC will hold an emergency meeting in the next few hours to discuss Pakistan’s future in case they do not change their stance.
