The Packers head coach and GM remain attached at the hip.
This Green Bay Packers Signed head coach Matt LaFleur and general manager Brian Gutekunst to contract extensions. Official announcement of the team on Friday.
Two weeks ago it was reported that LaFleur and the Packers had agreed to an extension, with Green Bay opting to stick with him as head coach despite reports of a possible departure after a stunning playoff collapse in the wild card round.
21-3 lead at halftime in their meeting with the Packers Chicago Bears And, despite a Chicago comeback, the Bears had the ball on their 21-yard line with three minutes left and a 27-24 lead. However, following a missed field goal, they allowed a late game-winning touchdown as the Bears claimed a miraculous 31–27 victory.
Those losses made it back-to-back years in which the Packers were eliminated from the playoffs in the wild card round. Still, LaFleur’s consistency as their head coach is extremely impressive.
Indeed, he has reached the playoffs in all but one of his seven seasons as a head coach. In the regular season, his record is 76-40-1, a winning percentage of 65.4.
Gutekunst was hired in 2018 before he hired LaFleur a year later, and the two will remain tied at the hip after signing multi-year extensions. Executive Vice President/Director of Football Operations Russ Ball also signed a long-term extension.
“We are excited to extend our commitment to Brian, Matt and Russ as leaders of our football operations. Their steadfast dedication, passion and support have been a constant in our drive to compete at the highest level,” said Packers President and CEO Ed Polisi.
“While we are all disappointed with the end of this season, we remain purposefully aligned and have spent significant time over the past week collaborating on the path forward.
“I am very confident that we have the right people in place to achieve our goals. The entire Packers organization is eager to support every effort to bring our community and fans another championship that they so richly deserve.”
