Novak Djokovic has shared his feelings about playing doubles with Nick Kyrgios at the 2025 Brisbane International. Both players will also compete in the singles competition at the ATP 250 Championship.

Djokovic and Kyrgios took to the court on Monday, December 30, the former’s first match of 2025 and the latter’s return after 18 months. The two received doubles wild cards and faced Andreas Miles and Alexander Eller. In a thrilling match that lasted 1 hour and 48 minutes, they defeated 6-4, 6-7(4), 10-8 win.

Djokovic gave a lively on-court interview after his win, describing it as a “fun” to play alongside Kyrgios and admitting he followed the Australian’s lead throughout much of the match. .

“I want to thank Nick for his participation. The other day he said it would be a pleasure to play with him. It is. It’s an honor,” said the Serbian.

“I’m happy to share the court with him when he comes back. I haven’t played many doubles matches in the last 5 years. Whatever Nick says, I actually listen to it,” he added.

Djokovic’s comments were in response to comments made by Kyrgios ahead of the doubles match in Brisbane, where the Australian told the media:

“I mean, everyone thinks he’s a pleasure to play with, and I’m actually a pleasure to play with, to be honest.”

Novak Djokovic and Nick Kyrgios will take on Nikola Maketic and Michael Venus in the second round of the 2025 Brisbane International Doubles. Mektic and Venus have byes and will begin their campaigns on December 31st.

Djokovic and Kyrgios will also start their singles matches tomorrow, with the Serbian taking on Hijikata Rinki and the Australian taking on Giovanni Mpethi Perikad. After finishing in Brisbane, both will head to Melbourne for the Australian Open, which starts on January 12.

The Serbian is aiming for a record 25th Grand Slam in his first Grand Slam of the year as he seeks to break Margaret Court’s record. With the support of tennis analysts, including Serena Williams’ former coach Rene Stubbs, he will make history.
