Not Rohit Sharma! Suryakumar Yadav emerges as India’s best T20I captain

Indian national cricket team captain Suryakumar Yadav is one of the best T20I captains of all time. Suryakumar Yadav will become one of the rarest T20I captains if he can lead his country to the 2026 T20 World Cup title.

Since India took over from Rohit Sharma as T20I captain in July 2024 after winning their second T20 World Cup, the team has been on fire with the Suryakumar and Gautam Gambhir partnership remaining unbeaten in the bilateral series.

Aakash Chopra questions Suryakumar Yadav’s World Cup record

Meanwhile, Suryakumar Yadav has scored 231 runs in the ongoing tournament but his World Cup total has raised questions. Aakash Chopra pointed out that this is SKY’s fourth T20 World Cup and fifth World Cup, but he only has a few half-centuries, and these were against smaller teams.

Aakash Chopra said on his YouTube channel: “I have been following Suryakumar Yadav Yadav’s numbers. When you look at his World Cup numbers, his overall numbers are outstanding. He scored two half-centuries against the United States, which is a staggering hit, but IMHO, he has only scored two half-centuries in the World Cup, apart from being an assistant or a minor team.”

He further added: “This is his fourth T20 World Cup. If you include ODIs, this is also his fifth World Cup. But in this half-century, he has only played against strong teams. One was against South Africa in Perth and the other was against Afghanistan in the last World Cup.”
