Former Australia all-rounder Shane Watson has shared his thoughts on India’s top scorer and most dangerous batsman during the 2026 T20 World Cup. Watson said India has several batsmen who can dominate the World Cup, including Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya.

India will take on Namibia in the second match of Group A on February 12 at the Arun Jaitley Stadium. The Men in Blue started their campaign on a positive note with a 29-run victory over Team USA at the Wankhede Stadium. They hope to continue their winning streak in the next games.

In an interview with Sportsyaari, Shane Watson backed Abhishek Sharma, Suryakumar Yadav and Hardik Pandya to play a role in the World Cup. The former all-rounder said Pandya could emerge as the player of the tournament.

“India have a lot of dangerous batsmen. Obviously, Abhishek Sharma has been doing really well. Suryakumar Yadav has continued to do really well,” said Shane Watson.

“I will be very surprised if Hardik Pandya doesn’t light up this T20 World Cup. He is in unbelievable form at the moment and his fitness is very good, so don’t be surprised if he becomes the player of the tournament,” he added.

Shane Watson has praised Virat Kohli for his excellent consistency, saying the India star continues to score big runs and dominate in one-day cricket. Watson described Kohli as a master of the format.

“Yeah, I know. He’s still an absolute run machine. In one-day cricket, there’s no doubt he’s a master of the format. His ability to score runs consistently, score runs so quickly, and do it so often, really sets him apart from others,” Watson said.

Virat Kohli to return to IPL 2026 after strong ODI performance

Virat Kohli will not play in the ongoing ICC T20 World Cup 2026. He retired from T20 internationals after India won the 2024 T20 World Cup, defeating South Africa in the final to clinch the title.

Kohli last played competitive cricket in the ODI series against New Zealand in January. Although India lost the series 1-2, he performed well with the bat, scoring 240 runs in three innings at an average of 80.00 and a strike rate of 105.26, including a half-century and a century.

Overall in ODIs, Kohli played 311 games and scored 14,797 runs in 299 innings at an average of 58.71 and a strike rate of 93.82. His record includes 77 fifties, 54 centuries and a highest score of 183 runs.

Kohli will next feature in the IPL 2026, which starts on March 26. He will go on to represent Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB), who won their first IPL title in 2025 by defeating Kings XI Punjab (PBKS) under the leadership of Rajat Patidar.
