A knock at the door
If the Associated Press Photographer Lindsey Wasson knocked at Seattle Seatch’s door at Mary E. Brunkow around 4 at Local Time on Monday, this was the dog woke up. Zelda’s bark aroused by the husband of Brunkow, Ross Colquoun.
“I don’t think he knows how I was there,” says Wasson. “And I said, ‘You know, sir, I think your wife just won the nobel prize.'”

“Don’t be afraid,” he told her husband.
But it’s true. Trio has, research starts two decades, uncovered a key path used the body to check the immune system. Experts call the knowledge critically to understand autoimmune diseases such as type 1 diabetes, rheumatoid arthritis and lupus.
The next day, photographer Mark J. Trill and Damian Dovarganes went to Santa Barbara, California, to find the physicist John Martinis before the sun rises. His wife Jean, answered the door and told them to return later: Martinis should sleep.
“For many years, we will continue to even notify the physics award,” he told the pictures. “At some point we just decided, that’s the nuts. Let’s find out if it’s happening, but we’ll just sleep.”
He added, laughing: “I try to think about how I introduce it. Like, ‘you think you should plan to Sweden?”
He finally stimulates her husband before 6 am local time (1300 GMT), telling her that the ap likes an interview.
“I know that the Nobel Prize notices this week, so I have two and two together,” Martinis said. “I opened my computer and looked under the Nobel Prize 2025 and saw my picture with Michel Descoret and John Clarke. So I was shocked.”

A hike stopped
Everything but Fred Ramsdell seems to know that he only won the Nobel Prize in Medicine.
Ramsdell was out of a backpacking trip Monday, driving Yellowstone National Park with his wife and two dogs, Larkin and Megan. He kept his cellphone in plane mode as he always did on family trips.
As they run a little time in town, his wife begins to scream as notices flooding his phone. He told him that he only won the Nobel Prize of Medicine along the Brunkow and Shimon Sakaguchi.
“I said, ‘No, I’m not,'” Ramsdell told AP in an interview next day from his car. “He said, ‘Yes, you do. I have 200 text messages saying you won the Nobel Prize.'”
After Monday, Ramsdell was driving a Montana hotel to connect to Wi-Fi and call friends and colleagues. He didn’t tell the Nobel Committee to get their feelings until midnight.
He said he was shocked and fearful to receive recognition. But he has no plans to change his habit of the phone, which he says is important for work-life balance.
A phone call from Sweden
The Nobel Committee calls the winners before the formal announcement is made. Some ignore the Swedish number – like the Bruskow, who believes in pre-dawn calls is spam.
If his phone runs Wednesday, the winner of chemistry Susumu Kitawa is doubtful. He said he replied “It’s much unconscious, thinking it’s just another telemarketing calls I’m just new.”
