Earthrise meets the Ashaninka people, who are mobilizing global action to protect the planet in their ancestral lands in the Amazon.
The evidence is clear: human activity is damaging our planet. Although we know the causes and solutions to the climate and nature crisis, action is still not enough. If knowledge alone isn’t enough to drive change, what can?
Earthrise Explore an emerging movement that challenges humanity to rethink its place on earth, based on the idea that we are part of nature, not separate from it.
The play begins in the Brazilian Amazon, where the Ashaninka people of Apiwtxa are celebrating the 1992 demarcation of their ancestral lands. For decades, they have campaigned to protect the rainforest, driven by a deep spiritual bond with nature. During her time with this strong Aboriginal community, arthritis Host Amanda Burrell participated in an ayahuasca ceremony and visited the Yorenka Tasorentsi Institute, where founder Benki Piyako is reforesting former pastureland by planting millions of trees. His mission: To inspire people around the world to live in harmony with nature.
