The Magpies are in desperate need of help. They won just three of their first 11 games Premier League games and sitting As low as 14thJust qualified for the Champions League last season. Brentford’s defeat only compiles Eddie HoweFor the first time since he took over at St. James’ Park, the pressure is mounting.
Many have had their say on Newcastle’s current predicament, including club legend Alan Shearer.
The Premier League record goalscorer shares what he thinks has been missing lately, explain: “I think there’s always pressure on managers to get results but I think the job Eddie Howe has done at Newcastle and the trophies he’s achieved in the League Cup, I think he’s got a lot of points in the bank.
“What I’ve seen is that Eddie’s Newcastle teams have been dynamic, difficult to play against and don’t give their opponents any space. That’s been missing from away performances and even home performances for sure. What’s been missing for me is high pressure and energy.
“I’ve said it before, although Nick Waltermade is good with the ball at his feet, he’s a problem for Newcastle because he’s not the quickest, he can’t press and he doesn’t run in behind.
“That’s what Eddie’s teams do all the time. Look at what Alexander Isak does, or look at what Callum Wilson does, they press and get behind. But this guy can’t do that and that’s a problem for Newcastle.”
This is the type of situation the Magpies need to turn around as quickly as possible and exposes their need for reinforcements in January.
