Ferguson is no longer under contract with New Zealand Cricket and he missed the series against Sri Lanka in Australia’s Big Bash League.
Sears is back from a knee injury that sidelined him for much of last year, while O’Rourke and Smith impressed in the recent Test series against England and the subsequent limited-overs series against Sri Lanka .
Jacob Duffy has been named as the traveling substitute after impressing in the T20s and one-day international series against Sri Lanka.
The Black Caps will play warm-up matches against Pakistan, South Africa and Afghanistan in Karachi and Lahore before the tournament starts on February 19.
