Even though it’s been over 17 years since GTA 4 was released, its active fan base continues to create unique mods for it. It adds a lot, from fixing most of the graphical issues to adding brand new map expansions and missions. Recently, a group of modders created a mod that completely changes vehicle license plates in GTA 4.
Here are all the details about the newly launched LibertyCityPlates mod for GTA 4.
GTA 4 dynamic license plate module released
On December 16, 2025, a new GTA 4 mod called LibertyCityPlates was released. The mod was developed by Shvab, CP, and Ash_735 and uploaded to the popular Nexus Mods website.
According to modders, this is a unique third-party feature that dynamically changes the license plate of every car in the game. This means each vehicle will have a unique number plate, replacing the traditional number plate found in the regular version.
Each car will now appear more realistic without requiring a lot of textures, unlike the old license plate mod which added the license plate texture to each car’s .wtd container.
By tweaking the .sco script, players can also modify the license plates on their cars. This is thanks to the mod’s versatile license plate management. ScriptHook and other third-party script engines can also provide this functionality. This provides players with countless opportunities to design their own missions where vehicles have unique license plates (such as the Comet with the BRUC1E license plate), enhancing gameplay variety.
In addition to the number plates for the Alderney area on the map, the mod also contains number plates for specific vehicle classes, such as ambulance, taxi, police, etc.
