Netflix’s first original video podcast features Pete Davidson and Michael Irvin

Netflix has increased its investment video podcastswith its latest projects featuring popular comedian Pete Davidson and Cowboys Hall-of-Famer Michael Irvin.

The streaming giant Office has partnered on Wednesday two original video podcasts will arrive on the platform: ” by Irvin “The White House,” streaming on January 19, and “The Pete Davidson Show,” debuting on January 30.

Both series, which are only available to Netflix subscribers, are designed to harness the star power of their hosts. Davidson already has two comedy specials on the service that have done well for the streamer. Meanwhile, Irvin stands out as a prominent figure in the world of sports and is a major focus of the Netflix documentary series “America’s Team: The Gambler and His Cowboys.” His new show is likely to attract millions of football fans who already subscribe to the service.

Davidson’s show will feature candid, behind-the-scenes conversations with friends from his own garage, airing every Friday, while Irvin’s show will deliver in-depth sports news, analysis, and commentary twice a week, joined by celebrity guest co-hosts like former NFL All-Pro wide receiver Brandon Marshall.

These originals will join Netflix’s growing slate of video podcasts, along with licensed titles from iHeartMedia, Spotifyand Barstool Sports like “Dear Chelsea,” “My Favorite Murder,” and “The Ringer.” Notably, as part of these licensing agreements, these movies are not available in their entirety on YouTube.

Wednesday’s news comes at a time when Netflix is increasingly trying to challenge YouTube’s dominance in the podcast space, with viewers watching more than 700 million hours of podcasts every month on living room tools by 2025.

However, Netflix is still in the early stages of developing its podcast library. With millions of podcasts available across YouTube, Spotify, and other rival platforms, the sheer number of options poses a significant challenge for Netflix. If the company wants to capture a decent chunk of that audience, it has a lot of work to do.
