Sky Sports, YouTube and the NBA are teaming up to stream the NBA All-Star game live exclusively on the Sky Sports YouTube channel on Sunday 15 February at 10pm for Chewkz.
LeBron James, Kevin Durant, Luka Doncic and Victor Wembanyama are just four of the intriguing names featured in this year’s event – which includes a dunk contest, a three-point contest and a celebrity and rising star contest.
But this year’s headline event – the All-Star Game itself – brings a new round-robin format, pitting three different teams against each other, one composed entirely of foreign stars and two American teams.
Here’s everything you need to know ahead of the NBA’s biggest weekend:
What is the new All-Star game format?
The All-Star Game adopts a new and improved format, with teams divided by age and country, and a mini round-robin match before the finals, with the two best-performing teams competing in the finals.
Until last year, the NBA had used a fantasy draft format in which the two top vote-getters would select a team made up of players from their league before introducing a round-robin format in 2025.
This year’s All-Star Game is based on the concept of Team USA vs. Team World. Team World – made up only of foreign-born players – will face Team Stars and Team Stripes, two teams made up of American-born players.
The two American teams are divided by age – the Stars feature young talent like Anthony Edwards, Devin Booker and Tyrese Maxey, while the Stripes represent an older generation of All-Stars including LeBron, Durant and Kawhi Leonard.
Each team will play three 12-minute games against the opposing team before the two top teams face off in a 12-minute final.
Is this LeBron’s last All-Star weekend?
Much of the discussion surrounding the weekend was about the future of LeBron, the 41-year-old who is playing in a record-breaking 22nd consecutive All-Star Game.
LeBron appeared emotional in a recent pregame tribute video for what could be his final game in his hometown of Cleveland, where he spent an illustrious 11-year NBA career.
“I’m just trying to take everything in and not take these moments for granted,” LeBron said of Cleveland’s tribute. “Because this could be (my last season). Obviously I haven’t made a decision about the future yet, but it could very well be.”
LeBron holds the record for most All-Star Game appearances in 22 of his 23 NBA seasons, surpassing Hall of Famer Kareem Abdul-Jabbar’s record of 19 appearances, but he was initially selected as a reserve for this year’s All-Star Game before the new format was announced.
