Mutated Rats Rule This Ooey-Gooey Clip From ‘Cold Storage’ (Exclusive)

Cold Storage it looks like perfect Valentine’s Day counterprogramming when it hits theaters this week. it a sci-fi horror comedy about co-workers at a storage facility who discover a parasitic fungus has invaded—and sheer terror ensues. io9 has an exclusive clip to share today, featuring Stranger ThingsJoe Keery (very different and-Steve Harrington hair) and barbarousGeorgina Campbell’s made a rancid discovery.

What is a rat king? Watch and learn.

Cold Storage from screenwriter David Koepp—adapting his 2019 novel of the same name here, but also known for its scripting by Steven Spielberg Jurassic Park, Jurassic Park: The Lost Worldand Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skullas well as Spider-Man, Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destinyand Jurassic World Rebirthamong many others.

Koepp is also a director (Stir of Echoes, Secret Window)BUT Cold Storage directed by Jonny Campbell (whose resume includes episodes of Doctor Who and Westworld).

Here’s the full synopsis:

“Teacake (Joe Keery) and Naomi (Georgina Campbell), two young employees of a self-storage company built on the site of an old US military base, have their wildest shift at night when a parasitic fungus emerges from the lowest levels of the base, where it had been sealed off by the government decades before. terrorizing the facility’s inhabitants—human and otherwise.

With time running out, it’s up to Teacake and Naomi, with the help of a grizzled retired bioterror operative (Liam Neeson), to stop the ruthless threat and prevent the explosive extinction of humanity itself.

We love a “night shift gone wrong thanks to weird old military tech” story-major Return of the Living Dead vibes, except for out-of-control mutant organisms rather than out-of-control brain-chomping zombies.

Liam Neeson is also in this cast, as is Sosie Bacon (Smile)Oscar winner Vanessa Redgrave, and Oscar nominee Lesley Manville. However, we’re more interested in seeing the critter’s co-stars, based on the rat-filled special effects in the clip above.

All will be revealed in what looks like a delightfully splattery way when Cold Storage hits theaters Friday, February 13.
