David Morrell says WBC interim light heavyweight champion David Benavidez is a “RoboCop” He can’t dance, and there’s “nothing to gain” for him in the upcoming Main Event match on February 1 at T-Mobile Arena in Las Vegas.
Morell (11-0, 9 KOs) thinks Benavidez (29-0, 24 KOs) is an unathletic robot fighter who can’t move and wasn’t able to compete in last year’s fight Knockout Caleb Plant. He felt he had no problem overpowering his offense, which required his opponent to stay still so he could stand up and land a flurry of punches.
Morel’s mission
It will be interesting to see if Benavidez can handle the power of the 26-year-old Morel in this fight, as he knocked out Ronald Gavriel in the 12th round of their 2017 opener he. Many boxing fans thought Benavidez lost that fight and a rematch was ordered. Benavidez also had issues in his last fight with Alexander Gvozdyk.
“Benavidez is Robocop, it’s no secret to anyone. That’s it. Look at Benavidez vs. Plant. It was 12 rounds. This fight revealed the secret,” David Morrell says super boxing championletting fans know that David Benavidez is a robot and going up against Caleb Plant.
“I’ve never fought Plant before, but I don’t think Plant has too much power against Benavidez. He’s a big guy. He’s stronger, too. So, if you have a good pair of legs, you work hard Training, you have strength, and everything, Benavidez has nothing for you right now.
“I can dance. I have moves. Benavidez can’t dance. That’s it,” Morel said.
Benavidez’s past campaigning at 168 against smaller, historic fights that were poised to be mothballed and deconstructed is no more. He is now 175 years old and has been forced to face high-level opposition. Benavidez has struggled so far in this new weight class and there’s a good chance he’ll be knocked out by Morel on February 1st.
There’s a lot at stake for both fighters in this conflict. The winner will fight Artur Beterbiev or Dmitry Bivol for the undisputed light heavyweight championship. The loser will start over and reach the back of the line.
Given how heavily PBC has promoted and pushed Benavidez over the years, they will soon bring him back and try to get a rematch with Morel if possible.
