this India and Pakistan The game is back on the table. After weeks of drubbing, now reports from PTI claim that Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) Chairman Aminul Islam has asked Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) Chairman Mohsin Naqvi to end the boycott against India and play in the match scheduled to be played in Colombo on February 15.
Bangladesh Cricket Board president Aminul Islam attended a virtual meeting with International Cricket Council vice-president Imran Khawaja in Pakistan along with Naqvi after the apex body held an emergency meeting to end the spat between India and Pakistan. The Bangladesh Cricket Board president expressed gratitude to Pakistan for supporting them when they were withdrawn from the T20 World Cup.
Bangladesh Cricket Board turns things around
The Bangladesh Cricket Board has received no support from the PCB, but they continue to insist on changing the venue of major events from India to Sri Lanka, citing security concerns. Your daily dose of cricket!
However, the decision was not officially confirmed by the BCCI and the Bangladesh Cricket Board was outraged by the decision and refused to travel to India citing the safety of the cricketers and management. Pakistan voted in favor of its neighbor’s request to move the match, calling it an “injustice” after it was dismantled.
Pakistan has fallen into its own trap
After the incident, when the Pakistani government issued an announcement on social media, it mentioned participating in the T20 World Cup and stated that it would boycott the match between India and Pakistan on February 15. The quarrel has continued since then. Now, as the situation develops, the Sri Lanka Cricket Association along with the Emirates Cricket Board have written an official email to the PCB to reconsider its stance.
PCB chairman Mohsin Naqvi has good relations with Aminul Islam, SLC and Emirates Cricket Club. The UAE has been Pakistan’s home and away stadium for years, following a horrific shootout against Sri Lankan cricketers in 2009. The first major event returns in ICC Champions Trophy 2025.
PCB is now waiting for a signal from the government
The PCB has made certain demands to the ICC to change their stance on the India vs Pakistan match. They want the apex body to ask BCCI to initiate bilateral talks between India and Pakistan seriesand increase their revenue, a portion of which comes from the ICC’s annual revenue. They also want India to start with a handshake, which they stopped during the Asia Cup match.
Mohsin Naqvi was waiting for the green signal after taking the final call with Pakistan Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif as it was not the PCB’s decision to boycott the match but the federal government’s stance. The India vs Pakistan match generates twice as much revenue as any other event at the ICC. Both the ICC and Sri Lanka will suffer if the match cannot be played.
