Millions take bath in India’s Mahakumbh Mela

The Mahakumbh Mela, the world’s largest Hindu religious gathering, entered its second day on Tuesday.

Over the next six weeks, 400 million visitors are expected to attend the festival.

Thousands of religious leaders and pilgrims plunge into the icy water to take part in rituals they believe will purify them of their sins and help them gain salvation.

The BBC’s Samira Hussain described the “amazing” spectacle that began in the early hours.
