Everyone who saw the 2007 Frank Darabont film, the fog, remember this. Love it or hate it, the film adaptation of Stephen King’s story has one of the most brutal, disturbing, and unforgettable endings. And now, maybe we have a chance to feel that pain again.
The deadline reports none other than Mike Flanagan, the man behind King adaptations such as Chuck’s Life, Gerald’s Game, Doctor Sleepand soon Carriehave signed on writing and directing a new adaptation in the story for Warner Bros. He is currently working in a new version of The Exorcist for Universal and has long been attached to a potential Dark Tower Amazon adaptation.
Based on the 1980 novel, The Fog tells the story of a group of Maine residents (maine lagi) who are trapped in a supermarket while a mysterious fog overtakes their town. Scary, scary, and mysterious but mostly speaking of the ways people react to dangerous situations, in both positive and negative ways. This aforementioned 2007 film was made from the director of The Shawshank Redemption and The Green Mile and was later turned into a Spike TV series as well. It only lasted one season.
No word on how or why King or Flanagan chose to visit The Fog At this point, however, you should consider having a new, fresh take on it. After all, that unforgettable, downer of an ending is very different from King’s original version. Perhaps they believe, because of that, the previous film never got the love it deserved. Which is probably right. But it could also be because, like we said, anyone who saw it never watched it again because that ending was so brutal.
