West Ham United forward Michael Antonio has been released from hospital three weeks after a horrific car crash in Epping Forest, Essex.
Antonio had to be airlifted to a London hospital after hitting a treeGetting stuck in a vehicle. The next day he underwent surgery on his broken leg.
The 34-year-old Jamaica international, who will not play again this season because of his injuries, spent Christmas in hospital but is believed to be well enough to continue his recovery at home.
West Ham Almost £60,000 has been raised to be donated to NHS and Air Ambulance charities in recognition of the support Antonio has received by auctioning the shirt he wore to the match and matching the amount.
A statement from the Hammers this week read: “Everyone at the club would like to reiterate their heartfelt thanks to the first responders, emergency services, air ambulance staff and the NHS for the incredible support given to Mitchell following the accident.”
West Ham captain Jarrod Bowen dedicated the win against Wolverhampton Wanderers to Antonio two days after the accident.
“It has been special to see the West Ham family and the wider football community come together in support of Mike,” the winger has since said.
“We are all grateful for the care that both the NHS and Air Ambulance UK gave Mike during a challenging time. I would like to thank everyone for helping us raise an incredible amount for two great causes.”
