MEXICO CITY (Reuters) – Mexico sent a group of firefighters to California on Saturday to help teams battling raging fires that have ravaged parts of Los Angeles.
“The humanitarian aid group is leaving Los Angeles, California,” Mexican President Claudia Sheinbaum wrote on X on Saturday morning, posting photos of firefighters holding Mexican and California flags and standing on the runway in front of the two planes.
“We are a nation of generosity and unity,” he added.
Six simultaneous fires that have ravaged neighborhoods in Los Angeles County since Tuesday have killed at least 11 people and damaged or destroyed 10,000 structures. Fees are expected to increase once firefighters are able to conduct door-to-door searches.

California Governor Gavin Newsom thanked Mexico in an X message posted Friday after the deployment was announced.
“California is very grateful for President Sheinbaum’s support as we work to contain the fires in Los Angeles,” he wrote.
